Last week I had the pleasure of attending a Jenny Craig event held at the Institute of Culinary Education in NYC! (aka my alma mater.. how fun right?) I walked into a large room, beautifully decorated with food and fun foodie facts.. Smiling faces greeted me at the door and handed me a Jenny Craig apron which I immediately put on!
They had a table of Jenny Craig approved skinny cocktails, Jenny Craig snacks, and a few tables set up to demo some of their new fall dishes! This instantly excited me as I love to cook (obvi) and I was happy to be part of an interactive display of the menu, rather then just sit and hear about it!
I walked around and mingled with some of the other amazing women in attendance, all equally excited for the amazing Jenny Craig “Swag Bag” we could see awaiting out departure by the door.
When we began, Lisa Talamini, Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist for Jenny Craig spoke to us about the new Fresh and Free Additions movement they are promoting right now. Its pretty genius actually.. You have amazing Jenny Craig meals (Over 100+ to choose from.. and all I have tried are delish) then you have all of these fresh fruit and veggie options that are “free”.
What do I mean?
Basically, Jenny Craig has reviewed all the nutritional values and noted by adding these specific herbs, vegetables and fruits it will not come in the way with your diet plan, rather assist as it will help you to feel and be more full so you don’t go snacking on junk food or over indulge on other meals.
Once we had that awesome demo, we all had the chance to recreate a Jenny Craig recipe given to us.. Super fun! (and beautiful too, right?!)
As we wrapped up our culinary adventure, we realized the food had been set up on the buffet! We were all having such fun with our activity we didn’t even realize it happened.. it was like magic! I walked over to the buffet and immediately my mouth was watering! All of the new Jenny Craig Fall flavor releases right there for us to taste! Butternut squash ravioli, szechuan shrimp and vegetable fried rice, stuffed peppers, chicken tacos.. a bunch of desserts like chocolate cheese cake, fresh fruit and lemon cake! Can you believe this is all Jenny Craig food?! I was standing there thinking wow, this is what a diet looks like? Sign me up!
We all made our plates and found a seat.. Just as I was about to dive in (literally dive in..my plate was huge and full.. I wanted to try everything!) Lisa asked us to wait as she had something to say. I never thought on my way there that I would have a life changing “Aha” moment at this event.. but here it comes…
Lisa asked us to put down our forks and close our eyes..
She said to take a deep breath and come into this moment..
Smell the delicious food..
Lisa told us to pick up our forks and take a bite and put the fork back down. Roll it around, actually taste it. Appreciate it, that we in that moment are nourishing our bodies. We deserve this solitude. We deserve this meal. We deserve to have a minute to eat during our hectic days.
I haven’t enjoyed a bite of food like that in years. Heck, maybe even never before..
I am a busy mom, I have a hectic job(s), I am always focused on feeding others and not myself. I will literally make a 3 course meal for my family and then just take a bite or two while I clean the kitchen. I’m wasn’t focusing on myself.
I actually started tearing up as Lisa spoke, and now again as I write this. I think a lot of us don’t take time for ourselves. It could be as little as a meal in solitude, a meal you can sit down and fully enjoy, fully taste.. not just swallow and rush to be fed and get on with the day.
We went on to eat this way for the next couple of bites.. Lisa urging us to enjoy this time and to try and be a bit more selfish with our time and to make sure we take care of ourselves and appreciate our bodies.
For the first time ever, I was the last to finish my food, I literally sat there by myself and enjoyed my entire plate.. truly enjoyed it, tasted it. I had never felt so amazing.. I spoke with Lisa after and explained how she touched me, how she made me realize I need to make sure I am not just filling my stomach but nourishing myself. We spoke for awhile and I expressed that I feel as though I was meant to be there to hear that.. I really appreciated her and I will carry her speech with me for the rest of my life.
What I love about Jenny Craig is the support you get.. I was in tears just listening to Lisa tell me I matter for 5 minutes, imagine having someone whose job is to support your diet help you everyday.. Thats what happens with this company, You have a dedicated personal consultant who you can go talk to or call.. someone who wants to see you succeed and reach your goals! Plus you don’t have to worry about counting calories and keeping track of points.. you just eat! You learn to eat well and nourish yourself with good foods. Good delicious foods! you eat 6 times a day.. and you have hundreds of meals to choose from so you don’t get bored with the dishes! Snacks, desserts, and entrees.. all tailored to your needs (and tastebuds). Your consultant who is chosen for you specifically, will help you along the way at every step. You get to have 3 meals and 3 snacks each day.. not to mention the fresh and free additions! Thats a healthy and happy way to lose the weight and keep it off! I mean, it’s been working for people for over 30 years.. They must be doing something right 😉
You can still have your favorite food and meet your goals, thats a beautiful thing!

The best part about these meals, they are super easy to make.. Grab and go, microwave and boom done!
I had a nice lunch at work the other day.. It was filling and everyone kept asking me what smelled so delicious!
I also enjoyed a couple of dishes at home.. I like to plate my meals when I am home! makes it more like you’re sitting at a 5 star restaurant enjoying a meal rather than just eating it from the container! (Which isn’t terrible..
